How To Reach : The monument is located at the eastern end of
Rajpath. It is almost centrally located in Delhi so, commutation from any
part of the city is not a problem. It is advisable to reach India Gate late
afternoon so that ample time to boat ride and leisure walk.
History
India Gate is 42m high victory gateway located at the eastern end of
Rajpath in the city of Delhi was laid by the Duke of Connaught in 1921 and
dedicated tot he nation in 1931 by the then Viceroy, Lord Irwin. Designed by
Sir Edwin Lutyens, India Gate is formerly known as All India War Memorial
dedicated to 90000 soldiers of Indian Army who lost their lives in First
World War and 13,516 soldiers who gave their lives in the battle of Afghan
War of 1919. All the names are inscribed on the walls of this magnificent
construction.
An eternal flame or Amar Jyoti was lit under the arch of India Gate
constructed much later, dedicated to gallant soldiers who sacrificed their
lives for the country. It was built in 1971 and all the time uniformed
guards stand guard over the flame. As a tribute to soldiers, a rifle crowned
by soldiers helmet is placed on a high pedestral near the flame. The whole
of gateway is made up of red Bharatpur stone.

Republic Day Parade
On 26th January, every year Republic Day of India is celebrated when
president of India garland at Amar Jawan Jyoti to pay respect to Indian
Armed Forces. It followed by grand parade that move along Rajpath comprise
of marching contingents, Indian weaponry, cultural dances and many other
colorful events by different school children from different part of India.
It is a fascinating colorful ceremony and if you are present at that time
don't miss the event.
Swar Utsav
Every October Delhi Tourism organize a three day musical extravaganza on
the exuberant lawns of the India Gate. The cultural program includes by the
performance of the best Indian classical musicans during this event.

India Gate is surrounded by many other attractions like Rashtrapati Bhawan,
which is the official residence of the president of India, beautifully
decorated with a garden. National Museum, which has a huge collection
historical artifacts both Indian and foreign. A National Gallery Of Modern
Arts that host the contemporary modern Indian art collection. The museum
houses around 4000 paintings, graphics and sculptures of modern artists.
