Location - It is located at about 55km from Panaji and 38km from
Margao.
How To Reach - It is well connected with Margao and Panaji. Buses or
taxis are readily available from Margao and Panaji to reach the sanctuary.
Where To Stay - There is a chalet accommodation at the park
entrance.
When To Go - October to March
Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is nicely nestled in the foothills of the Western
Ghats. The wildlife sanctuary spread across an area of 8 square km and the
smallest in Goa but different varieties of animals make the place an
exciting place for a day trip. The sanctuary preserves sambar deer, gaur
(Indian bison), the black faced langur, jackals and wild boar. Elephants are
also present but can be spotted at definite places. The place also a home to
different species of deers.
The sanctuary also has a large botanical garden with variety of plant
species, also has a deer park. the zoo inside was created to shelter
orphaned and injured animals but now it has become the main tourist
attraction. Inside the sanctuary, forest department offers elephant rides
for tourists. Deer safari is also available inside the deer park. just
entrance of the park, there is a small Nature Education Center that screened
wildlife videos for tourists. The park is also an exciting place for bird
watchers and butterfly enthusiasts.
Flora In Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary
Most of the sanctuary is covered with moist deciduous forests with little
pieces of evergreens and canes along with nullahs. The common trees are
Terninalia crenulata(Matti) and Rosewood. Other varieties are Lagerstroemia
(naked maiden of the forest/nano), jambo, saraca indica, kindall etc. The
thorny Bamboo arundinacea and Goant Lianus (Entada) are ubiquitous.
Fauna In Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary
The hills to the southeastern part of the sanctuary are herded by different
varieties of animals such as monkey, wild boar, deer, gaur, pythons, jackals
and leopards. Bonda is a also rich place of numerous species of birds. Bird
watchers who come to Goa for beach and fun, must visit the place for the
actual fun. Bondla core forest is mainly inhabited by big beasts like bison,
wild deer, leopard and sometimes elephant. Various frightening serpents are
also be seen.
Sights And Activities
Zoological Park
This park is a nice place to watch all the wilds in moated enclosures with
natural surroundings. There are many animals that you wished to see in
jungle but remained illusive when you sneak into their territory. The not so
vast zoological park of Bondla houses panther, lion, Gaur, sloth bear,
crocodile and various kinds of reptiles.
Deer Safari Park
If you are deer lover, this is the place for you. The park houses sambars
and spotted deer. There are jeep available from outside the park to venture
into this sprawling safari park.
Nature Education Centre
Nature Education Center is place for travelers who are not just satisfied
with wild animals but also educate themselves about them. The place exhibits
many shows, and other types of exhibition that educate and interpret wilds
within four walls.
Botanic Gardens
The place is not specifically for students but you will feel the same.
There are students of Botany strolling around countless diverse form of
trees and plants. The place is also good place for nice picnic. There are
name board hanged in front of plants and trees to identify and learn.
