Location: The Union territories of Daman and Diu is located in the Valsad district of Gujarat.
How To Reach: Diu has airport but only connected with Mumbai and Ahmadabad. The nearest major airport is Mumbai(193km). The nearest railhead to Daman is Vapi(12km) on the Mumbai-Ahmadabad line of western railway. Vapi, which lies on Mumbai-Ahmadabad NH no.8 connects Daman by road to Mumbai-193 km, Ahmadabad- 367 km
Where To Stay: There are plenty of hotels and resorts.
When To Go: Round the year
A resort town on a grey, soupy sea is nothing more than a tropical paradise. This small island was established by Portuguese and left the legacy in the form of fine forts and churches. Daman specially crowded in the weekends by exiles from Mumbai and Gujarat. Along with Diu and Goa, Daman was taken in 1961 from the Portuguese, who had seized in 1531. Bahadur Shah, who was the last major Gujarati Sultan ceded to Portuguese in 1559. For some time Daman and Diu were governed from Goa but both now constitute the Union Territory of Daman and Diu, overseen by Delhi.

Tonga Ride at Jampore Beach

Daman and Diu lie on the edge of the southern borders of Gujarat, which is situated in western India. The northern side is covered with saltwater and marshy area but the southern coast has limestone cliffs, rocky coves and sandy beaches. The beaches though little unexplored but beautifully adorned by casuarina trees. The island is covered with palms and coconut trees strew this island. The virgin beaches are excellent place to cool off. There are small food joints and one can enjoy a laid back day sitting besides the beaches. There are some restaurant, which are the venue of live band performances. Not only beaches but there are beautiful churches and buildings that speak about the Portuguese heritage.

Sights And Activities

Fort Of Moti Daman
The fort dates back to 1559 AD spread over a huge area of 30000 sq m, houses two large bastions and two gateways. The moat at one end and a river on the other hand protected the fort from intruders. The inscription above the southern gate scripted some of the fort history. On the northern side of the fort all the palaces, the secreterian and other offices are located.

Fort Of Nani Daman
This is much smaller one than the fort of Moti Daman, with high stone walls spread over an area of 12,250 sq km. It has three bastions and two gateways. There is a large statue of St. Jerome and two giant human on either side of the gateway.

Nani Daman
Nani Daman afford to have some nice places to see. The prime attractions is medieval Nani Daman Fort and Gandhi Park. Other attractions are light house, gardens, historic monuments and ancient churches in Gothic style.

Daman Ganga Tourist Complex
It is located about 8km from the Nani Daman and 5km from Vapi station. The place is unique amusement park with a cafeteria, cottages, conference hall, amphi theater, giant water falls, water sport complex, island gardens, health club.
Kadaiya Lake Garden
It is cozy restaurant near a picturesque lake, surrounded the two islands connected by a bridge. The fountains and beautiful boat further adding more beauty. There are several features like toy train and computer games for children. It is more of a family tourist spot.

Mirasol Water Park
f you are water lover and play some exciting water sports like Go Carting, Striking Car and other water sports, the Mirasol Water Park is exactly your place.

Beaches
There are two main beaches; Devka and Jampore, which fascinates the tourists. The beaches are best suited for swimming as it is considered as danger free. Walking on the wet sand during low tide is a nice experience.

Shopping
For foreign goods, there is Foreign Market in the middle of the Daman town. At Devka Beach you can shop for some cheap electronic goods, souvenir, attractive household items and other things. Country liquors are also very famous shopping items but you are forbidden to take alcohol out of Daman unless you have a permit; there are police checks as you leave.
