Location: In the state of Gujarat, situated in the western part of India.
How To Reach: Porbander is connected with Mumbai by air. Railway station on Porbander- Ahmedabad railway line. The road network is well connected with other cities like Amhedabad, Rajkot, Jamnagar.
Where To Stay: There are every range of hotels available.
When To Go: October to March
Tourist Attractions: Kirthi Mandir, Tara Mandir (Planetarium), Chowpatty, Bharat Mandir, Sudama Mandir.
Porbander is an ancient port on the Saurashtra peninsula, strongly attached with Indian history because of its association with Mahatma Gandhi. It is being the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi. Kirti Mandir, which was once the residence of Mahatma Gandhi, is now a major tourist attraction. Porbander is one of the oldest town in western India. The town is also mentioned in Puranic era. According to Hindu mythology, Porbander is the birth place Sudama(great friend of Krishna) and here many tales about Lord Krishna and Sudama originated. The present city was established in 1785 AD by Rana Sartanji. The bastioned around the city testify the illustrious rule of Rana. But during British rule, under the orders of Colonel Lally, it lost its fortification.

Sudama Temple

Porbander is a small and friendly beach side town on the southeast coast of Gujarat. Though the sea is not suitable for swimming but the gentle walking on the tree lined streets enjoying the livening sea breeze, is surely on the itinerary. The place is also studded with many religious and public buildings dominated by the calm water of the sea. There are many attractive places to see other than excursions to Modpar Fort, Ghumli, famous Harshad Mata Temple and Barda Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sight And Activities

Kirti Mandir
A former residence of Mahatma Gandhi, is now a memorial, renovated in 1950. The 79ft high and 79 candle holders: symbols from all the world's major religions are incorporated, is an unique way to pay respect to Father of the Nation. There is a small bookshop and photography exhibition in the same building.

Sudama Temple
According to Hindu mythology Sudama was a dear friend of Lord Krishna. The friendship between two epitomizes the friendship between rich and poor. In the center of the town, a beautiful temple was built to pay reverence to the great soul. The only temple in whole India that is dedicated to Sudama.

Darbargadh
Built by Rana Sartanji, this a huge fortified palace with a mammoth stone entrance, with high turrets and massive wooden doors. The left of the entrance resemble large mansions with courtyards and intricately carved wooden elements.

Huzoor Palace
A mammoth palace is located at the end of Marine Drive. This large palace is made in European style with sloping roofs in a horizontal structure. The semi circular porticoes and decorated neo classical pillars and a beautiful entrance gate makes it worth a visit.
