Location: Rajkot is fourth largest city in Gujarat, located on the banks of the Ajit and Niari Rivers.
How To Reach: Rajkot airport connects with Mumbai and nearby Ahmedabad. The railhead of Rajkot is a junction on the western railway broad gauze line. Rajkot is well linked by road network with different cities of Gujarat and other western states.

Rajkot is an quintessential town of Gujarat in respect of economic development of the state. It also holds major significance in Indian independence movement as from here Mahatma Gandhi ignited his thoughts in his early life. There are old buildings along with new one scattered in the city. Rajkot still preserve the age old traditions of bandhani sarees, silk embroidery and beautiful mirror work. Rajkot is one of the most visited places in Gujarat and tourism in recent times have gained tremendous impulse.

SwamiNarayan Mandir

Rajkot is strongly associated with Rajput families. Tourist attractions are also aplenty. There are variety of tourist interests such as Kaba Gandhi's Gate, Watson Museum and Library, The Rajkumar College, Rashtriya Shala and Jagat Mandir. Rajkot is a hub of performing art. There are number of venues that organize the Gujarati plays and music concerts. Rajkot is pleasant to visit during the month of October to March.

Sights And Activities

Watson Museum And Library
The museum commemorates the work of Colonel John Watson, political agent(administrator) from 1886 to 1889. The museum has a vast collections of various ancient relics. The museum houses 3rd century inscriptions and delicate ivory work overseen by an unamused marble statue of Queen Victoria.

Kaba Gandhi No Delo
The hose holds many interesting information about Mahatma Gandhi. He was resided here at the age of 6. Here is small weaving school that preserve the Mahatma passion of hand loom. The narrow street around the place is also nice for strolling.

Patola Sari Weaving
Rajkot has quickly developed a patola weaving industry. This skill comes from Patan, and is a torturous process that involves dyeing each thread. However, in Patan both the warp and weft threads are dyed(double ikat), while in the Rajkot only the weft is dyed(single ikat), sao the product is more affordable. You can visit workshops in people's houses in the Sarvoday Society area.

Excursions
Rajkot has a nice base for many excursions. There are Jadeshwar(60km), Virpur(64km), Bhid Bhanjan(60km), Manas Mandir (14km), Gondal(38km) and Wankaner(50km).

Shopping
Rajkot is a famous shopping destination in Gujarat. Rajkot is home of many traditional art and craft and it is become a famous tourist attractions. The Rajkot attract tourists by its exquisite bandhani sarees, Gujarati stitch on dress materials and traditional designs of the jewelry.
