Location
250 km from Jaipur, Jodhpur is located at the edge of the Thar Desert with
Jaisalmer on its west, Barmar, Jalor and Pali on its south, Bikaner on its
north, and Nagaur on the eastern side. It has a typical desert climate, dry
and hot.
The Blue City
Jodhpur also called "Blue City", is second city of Rajasthan.
Founded by Rao Jodha is famous for Mehrangarh Fort, Umed Bhawan Palace,
museum and handicrafts. This 500 year old princely settlement is one of the
most beautiful Indian cities. Once the headquarter of the Rathore Rajputs,
this land of royalty is a glittering jewel set in the golden sands of barren
desert landscape. Jodhpur is now a major export centre of handicrafts.The

Tourist Attractions
Umed Bhawan Palace :
Made on the Chittar Hills in South Eastern direction of the City, this
palace is popularly called Chittar Palace by the local public. This 20 th
century palace was built by Maharaja Umed Singh. One of the last royal
constructions has been divided into 3 functional parts now, one having a
five-star hotel, one is the residence of the royal family and one has been
opened for public where a few pictures and things used by the royalties have
been exhibited.
Mehrangarh Fort :
The foundation of Mehrangarh Fort was laid Rao Jodha on 13th May, 1459. The
Fort is surrounded by a wall 12 to 17 ft. wide and 20 to 150 ft. high.
Maximum width of the Fort is 750 ft. and length 1500 ft. This magnificent
Fort on a 400ft. high hill can be seen from a great distance. Because its
shape is like that of a peacock's tail, it is also called Mayur Dhwaj
Fort.The fort encloses the palace gates, temples, artillery, memorials,
armery.
Rai-ka-Bag Palace :
This palace is situated near Raika Bag palace railway station. Constructed
in 1663 by Hadiji, queen of king Jaswant Singh-I, is now functioning as
income tax office.
Mandore Garden
8 kms north of Jodhpur, this garden is made of red sandstone and has a
beautiful sculpture. There are 16 colorfully painted heroes and deities
carved from a single piece of stone. The sculptures from 5th to 9th century,
ivory and lacquer work are displayed in the museum of this garden.
