National Park is connected by road with Jabalpur 175-kms, Khajuraho 445-kms,
Nagpur 266-kms, Mukki 25-kms, Raipur 219-kms. Within the park: Koshi - Kanha
(9-kms), Kishi - Katia (4-kms), Kishi - Mukki (32-kms). The Madhya Pradesh
State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) operates a Jeep Service for
visitors to go around in the park..
Where To Stay - There are log huts, hotels and hotels available in
Mukki and Kisli.
When To Go - The best time to visit is from February to June. The
park is closed during monsoon.
Food - Kisli has both restaurant and canteen. The restaurant serves
both Indian and western food.
Kanha National Park is one of the most illustrious parks in India, located
in Banjar and Halon valleys in the Mandla/Balaghat districts of Madhya
Pradesh. Kanha is mainly famous for tigers and considered the greatest
wildlife reserve. The park is spread more than 940 sq km in a horse shoe
shaped valley and have diverse topography. The landscape is perfect for
various type of wildlife. The forest is covered with savannah grassland,
hills and gently meandering rivers - home to hundreds of species of animals
and birds, including a stable population of tigers.
The flora in the park is diverse and exciting. Bamboo forests intermingle
with sal forests and meadows. The wildlife spotting in the dense forests is
a thrilling experience. There are beautiful black buck and antelope seen
amidst tall grassland. Also there are rare barasingha(swamp deer) dwell in
the park. Kanha wildlife park is popular among tourist because of large
numbers of animals ranging from prey to predators. The most exciting one is
obviously the royal Bengal tiger but there are also much exciting wildlife
can be spotted in the park such as porcupine, gray langurs, mongoose, the
barasingha, chital or spotted deer, nilgai, as well as majestic gaur (Indian
bison) and wild pig. There is also much excitement for ornithologist as the
park is blessed with numerous aves speciels including Indian rollers,
bee-eaters, golden orioles, paradise flycatchers, egrets, some outlandish
hornbills, and colorful array of kingfishers.
Sights And Activities
Bamni Dadar
Famously known as sunset point because of excellent view of setting sun in
the backdrop of various of various kind of animals ranging from sambar,
barking deer, gaur and four horned antelope.
Kanha Museum
This small museum is built inside the park and an interesting place to
visit. The museum exhibits different forest information, different
attributes and activities of the park. The museum also houses information on
tribal life.
Kawardha Palace
This majestic palace was built by Maharaja Dharamraj Singh in the period
1936-39. The palace is about three hours drine from Kanha National Park. The
whole palace is made up of Italina marble and stone and set in eleven acres
of private lush gardens. The palace is an excellent example of classic
Bundelkhand architecture. There are sweeping marble staircases and elegant
sweeping verandhas and high ceilinged lounges. There are other attraction
near the places such as Bhoremdeo Temple, Mandawa Mahal & Madan Manjari
Mahal dating back from 11th century.
Elephant Safari
The best way to spot wildlife is riding on the back of elephant. The
advantage of elephant safari is, it penetrate deep into the forest to have a
closer look of wildlife.
Jeep Safari
Another way to spot wildlife is by jeep safari. But you have to book your
gypsies in advance either through your hotels or at any one of the gates.
Gypises are generally rent for 60km,which is enough for a good look at the
park.
