Jalgoan literally mean water village because it strategically lies between various tributaries of River Tapi. Formerly known as East Khandesh during the rule of Malik Nasir. The place is also mentioned in the epic Mahabharata as Khandava jungles. The later period Buddhism had marked in the near by caves of Ajanta and caves of Nasik. The area was under rule of many dynasties of central India. the Yadavas ruled the place for many centuries, apart from Yadavas, Satvahanas, Ahir King, Chalukyas were other rulers. Later on came to the hand of Muslims rulers, from Khilji to Tughlaq and later on under control of Mughal rulers. After the end Mughal reign the Nizam of Hyderabad continued for long.

Sights And Activities
Omkareshwar MandirThe temple is intact for centuries. This small temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and located in Jai Nagar. The temple has beautiful architectural decor.
Sri Padmalaya
The temple is dedicated to elephant god, Lord Ganesha. The temple is considered very pious and sited in the hills, surrounded by many other temples.
Saint Muktabai Temple
The temple is dedicated to the saint Muktabai. It is an ancient temple and dedicated to most revered Goddess of that region.
Changdeo Temple
This is the only temple that is protected and located in the backwaters of the dam at Hatnur. The complex design work and art work makes it the major temple in the region.
Manudevi Temple
The temple is beautifully located in the middle of Adgaon village. To reach Manudevi you have to crisscross over a rivulet many times overlooking beautiful waterfall.
World Heritage Site
Ajanta caves are the most visited caves in India. It is just 40 miles from Jalgaon. Apart from caves, worth visit to ruined Parola Fort.
