Historically Nasik was always an quintessential kingdom of Hindu dynasties. Though later on the city was under control of Tughlaq followed by Mughal dynasty. However, the most prolonged dynasty was the powerful Satvahanas. Nasik served as an important trading port to the west. The name Nasik was changed to Gulshanabad during the Mughal era but later in the reign of Peshwas it renamed by its old name. In the year 1818 they lost ground to British. Nasik Municipality was formed in 1869 and made a district with 13 regions (talukas). Nasik witnessed the peak of freedom struggle of India. One of the important movement in Nasik during freedom movement was No Cooperation Movement. Dr. BR Ambedkar raised the temple entry movement for untouchables.

Sights And Activities
Muktidham TempleThis temple is a unique piece of architecture, built with white makrana marble tiles. On the walls of the temple, Bhagwat Gita is inscribed, though it ends on eighteen chapters.
Trimbakeshwar Temple
It is one of the 12 jyotirlinga thats always crowded with devotees. The temple is situated in the village Trimbak, 36 km from Nasik also forms the source of Godavari river. Mahashivratri is the renowned festival celebrated every year in this temple.
Pandavleni Caves
This ancient caves believed to 2000 years old, located beautifully on the Trivashmi Hill. They were once abode of the Jain saints, idols of Buddha, Jain Teerthankara Vrishabhdeo, Veer Manibhadraji and Ambikadevi are disseminated in different 24 caves.
Excursion To Nandurmadhmeshwar And Ramkund
Nandurmadheshwar is a popular bird sanctuary in Maharashtra, which is 60 km away from Nasik. The place is best for nature lovers. The best season for bird watching is October March.
Ramkund is a holy water tank built in 1696. It is 27 meters by 12 meters built by Chitrarao Khatarkar. According to legends, Lord Rama and his Sita use to bath in the water during their time of exile. Its a common practice to immerse ashes in the holy waters of this kund to attain salvation.
Dudhsagar Waterfalls
The waterfall is amongst top 100 waterfalls in the world, is favorite among youngsters. Just after monsoon the place becomes a great place to visit. The 10 meters long water is milky white and rocks steps are chiseled on to pave way for easy access.
