Agartala offers beautiful palaces, garden hills, temples and lakes and above all a pristine environment that isolate it from other other major cities. Sights And Activities
Ujjayanta PalaceUndoubtedly the biggest attraction of the city panorama, this palace was established by Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style in the year 1901. The palace area has covered an area of 800 hundred acres with spectacular lake and artificial lakes adds glory. The main block is now houses the State Legislative Assembly. Two ochre colored temples Umanneshwar and Jagganath are present in the grounds.
Kunjaban Palace
Another beautiful palace is situated just 1km from the Ujjayanta Palace. The palace was built in 1917. It is now transformed into the official residence of the Governor of Tripura, only the southern part of the palace is open to the public.
Neermahal
This is another exquisite palace in the city, which is built in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake, 55km south of Agartala. It was made by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as a summer residence. Though little decrepit inside, but the palace exterior and garden have been restored and the sight of the domes and pavilions reflected in the lakes. You can rent a motorboat and cross the lake to the palace.
Udaipur
Udaipur remain preserve a tinge of antiquity of formal Manikyas dynasty. The town is surrounded by undulating paddy fields and low forested hills. The prime attractions of Udaipur are the Jagannath Temple and seventeenth century Moghal Masjid. Tripura Sundari is the most revered temples in the region, located 5km from the town. Animal sacrifices are performed here daily.
Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary
A short excursion from Agartala lead you to this ferine jungle of Sepahijala. The wildlife sanctuary is situated at the hillock and houses rare spectacled monkey, deer and more than 150 species of birds.
Shopping In Agartala
Agartala signature products are small items made up of bamboo, cane and wood. The beautiful hand-crafted bed sheet and saris made up of silk and polyester are also renowned for their uniqueness. The best place to buy all the items in a reasonable price is the state government emporium of Agartala.
