The state of Assam is the biggest in the northeastern part of India and sandwiched between the Himalayan foothills to the north and the hills and plateau of Meghalaya to the south. The state is rich with biodiversity and one of the most forested region in India. The green rolling plains and dense forested land is the one of the largest producer of tea. The mighty and turbulent Brahmaputra river dominate the land and become a rich flora and fauna paradise of India. Assam is also known for its wildlife and here is the place where endangered one horned rhinos are lived in various wildlife sanctuaries.

The state has diverse cultural make up and different races in different points of time. Not only renowned for rich flora and fauna but the history of Assam and various ancient Hindu temples instill interest in travelers. Assam produces more than half of India’s tea. It has more than 800 tea estates, which were laid by down by the British who also created the lone golf club in the region. It is also one of India’s few oil regions, home to the first oil refinery in Asia at Digboi in Upper Assam. Although political violence has racked Assam over the last two decades but huge number of travelers are not shy to visit the place every year. Kaziranga National Park
The most illustrious national park of India for its big beasts. It is located at central Assam and covered an area of 430sq.km. It is also home of highly endangered species of one horned rhinoceros. The landscape comprises of tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, mellow marshes and shallow pools. Other than rhinoceros, elephant, bison, sambar, hog deer, leopard, sloth bear, jungle cat and tigers adorned the forest.

Assam Arts And Crafts
The people of Assam are natural craftsmen. Assam is renowned world over for its exquisite bamboo and cane work. Other than that metal crafts and handlooms are also very popular in Assam. Craftsmen mostly use bell metal and brass. Almost every household traditional metal works are found. Muga, the golden silk is exclusive only to this state. Paat, which is used to make warm clothes for winter. With rich golden texture, Muga is finest wild Indian silk.

Adventure In Assam
Adventure buffers have plenty of option to quench their thirst. The mighty Brahmaputra river and its tributaries offers a wide range of river adventure such as challenging river rafting. The rivers afford to offer brimming raft with clas 3, class 4 and class 5 rapids. Tributaries of Brahmaputra such as Jia Bhoroli, Kapili and Manas are the best places for angling. Apart from that Cachar hills and Karbi hills of Assam offer exciting trekking options. For mountain climbing Elephant Rocks in Morigaon are famous among rock climbers.
