Location: Dimapur in Nagaland is bounded by Kohima district on the south and east, Karbi Anglong district of Assam on the West, the Karbi Anglong and stretch of Golaghat District of Assam, in the west and the north

Dimapur also known as “ city of the river people”, located 74km northwest of Kohima, is Nagaland’s largest and most industrialized town and single most town that is not set on the hills. It bears little likeness with rest of Nagaland as the town is noisy and polluted like any other busy towns. The town actually a gateway to the state. Standing on the riverside edge of town, Dimapur’s mushroom like monuments –fertility symbols dating back to the Kachari Kingdom –are the main point of interest.

Dimapur was the ancient capital of illustrious Kachari rulers, now serve as an important commericial town of Nagaland in extreme northeast India. The town is an stronghold of economic development of Nagaland, in fact it is emerging one of the fastest growing townships in the northeastern region of India. The town is a gateway to Nagaland and Manipur and plenty of hotels, shops and vehicle can be found here. It owns the only airport in the state, a railhead and well maintained bus terminus that connects with other places in Nagaland as well as neigboring states like Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram by NH 39.

Ruins Of Erstwhile Kingdom
Kachari kingdom was the main dynasty who ruled the region for many years. Dimapur was their capital and still hold some major sites of megalithic culture. Most of the ruins dates back to 13th century AD and evidence of Kahchari civilization. They are predominantly non Aryan with a strong Hindu influence. The carved images shows their rituals and cult of fertility. In addition to monolithic, Dimapur potrays ruins of temples, mound and tanks from Kachari period.

Chumkedima
It is set on the hills, 14km from Dimapur on NH 39. The department of Tourism has established a tourist village here. It was the first district headquarter during the British reign when Nagaland was under Assam state. You can also come across few but beautiful waterfalls located near by.

Ruzaphena
On the Dimapur-Kohima road, the place is an excellent spot for leisure and refreshment. The place afford to have a vibrant bazaars with plethora of local handicrafts and artifacts.

Intangki Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary is 37km from Dimapur, blessed with extreme rich flora and fauna. You can spot various types of animals but it is a paradise for ornithologists and best known for rare species of birds.

Triple Falls
It is a three tier waterfall located in the Seithekima village of Dimapur village. It is also sought after destination for trekkers.
