Location: Situated in the headquarter town of Tura in the state of Meghalaya, about 323 km via Guwahati in India.
How To Reach: The nearest railhead and airport is in Guwahati. From Guwahati regular bus services available for Garo Hills.
When To Go: September to May
Where To Stay: There are few accommodations and tourist lodges for the overland travelers.
Garo Hills in Meghalaya is densely forested and richest biodiversity area in the region. It spread across an area of 8000 sq.km and covered an area of one third of the reserved forest. The region is predominantly inhabited by Garo tribes and divided by three districts namely east Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills. The people here are superstitious and believed in all the ancient rituals and traditions. They believe in spirits and numerous myths and tales are known to them for centuries.

Tura once the headquarter of entire Garo Hills, now only the headquarter of West Garo Hills is 323km from Shillong via Guwahati. The town is named after their powerful Goddess Durama-Imbama. Tura peak is one of the finest place to see. It is set on a height of 1400m and can be reached by 5km trek. from here one ca view the hills against a backdrop of sweeping curve of river Brahmaputra. Garo Hills are specially attract wildlife enthusiasts and naturalists for its unique flora and fauna. The famous Balpakram national park is located in between two mountain ranges – the Arabella range and the Tura range. The highest point is Nokrek peak with elevation of 1412m.

Nokrek National Park
Nokrek is the highest peak in Garo Hills and has been declared a National Biosphere. Nokrek hill is the home of rare species of citrus locally known as memang narang, is also most primitive of all varieties of citrus plants in the world. The first gene sanctuary of this citrus furit has been developed in Nokrek to preserve the rare species. The sanctuary has covered an area of forty seven square kilometers.

Tura Peak
Tura peak is the majestic hills overlooking the town of tura. It is one of the sought after places for travelers. Local people believe it as a sacred abode of Gods and called it Dura. The area is richly forested with a huge area is covered with Cinchona plantation. The area has been declared as a reserve forest and a tourist bungalow is located at its vicinity. From the peak you can have a splendid view of low lying plains and sweeping mighty Brahmaputra river and golden yellow plains of Bangladesh from the peak. Tura peak can be reached by a 5km trek on a foor track that developed during the British Raj.

Imilchang Dare
In the west Garo Hills at the Tura Chokpot road, a spectacular waterfall is found. Flowing on the bed of crevice rocks, the stream suddenly changed into an thrilling waterfall of immense beauty. A deep wide pool at the bottom of the fall is become a good swimming pool, contains variey of fishes. The place is an ideal picnic spot.

Sisobibra
Located at the east Garo Hills, it is near Williamnagar, the headquarter of East Garo Hills. The place has rich biodiversity and in midst of thick jungles of Rongrengiri Reserve Forest, a historical monument dedicated to Garo warrior Pa togan nengminza Sangma is there. There are twin rest houses for tourist and the place is also a good place to see some wildlife. The most remarkable feature of the place is the variety of birds,which are found in that area. The sylvan ambiance of the place is surely attract many tourists.
