In And Around Nagaland

Nagaland is one of the smallest states of India, perched at a height of about 1500m in the far northeastern part of India. it borders the state of Assam to the west, Arunachal Pradesh to the north, Myanmar to the east and Manipur to the south. The state capital is Kohima and the largest city is Dimapur. A narrow strip of mountain territory, Nagaland is the home of many Tibeto-Burmese tribes liek the Aos, Angamis, Semas, Lothas and many others, collectively known as Nagas. The striking feature is, each tribe is different from one another –in customs, tradtions and even in language and each has its signature shawls. The prime attraction of Nagaland for tourists is their festivals. The biggest of all is the Hornbill Festival occurs in early December. Festivals are also the biggest and most valuable time for Nagas when Naga women wear a hand woven shawl that’s distinctive for each subtribe, while the men dust off their old warrior wear, loin cloth and all. Though the state is small but there are ample places to tour and know the amazing culture of Nagaland.
