Location: Nagaland is one of the seven states belonging to the north eastern part of India. It is bound by the state boundaries of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
Climate: Summers are pleasant while winter months of December and January are quite chilly. Monsoons prevail in the months of May to September with heavy rains witnessed during the months of July to September.
Best Time To Visit: October to May.
Languages: Nagamese, Konyak, Lotha, Angami, Hindi, English.
Main Festivals: Main festivals celebrated here belong to the tribal regions and generally relate to their main occupation, agriculture. Hornbill Festival, Moastu Festival, Tsungremong, Sankarni Puja, Nazu Festival, Tuluni Festival, Yemshe Festival, Kuki Mimkut, Konyak Aoling, Phom Monyu are the prominent festivals of Nagaland.
Nagaland is a land of natural vistas, a beautiful basket of nature's bounties. The high peaks, streams of lakes, deep gorges, wild flowers, coniferous forests, rich sub-Himalayan fauna and ofcourse, the tribal community, are hypnotizing enough to bind you for an adventurous stay here. The people of Nagaland mostly belong to the Christian faith. Weaving is their specialty and one can shop for amazing cane and bamboo crafts here.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO:

Kohima
Kohima is a beautiful hill station, located in the heart of Nagaland. It is the seat of all the political happenings of the state and the head offices of the Government organizations. There are many important tourist attractions located here including Sales Emporium from where one can purchase handicraft and handloom items, the prayer hall at Cathedral, Kohima village showcasing the Naga heritage, Dzulekie sub-tropical forest and State Museum.

Kohima War Cemetry
A quiet remembrance site constructed as a memorial ground for the army officers who sacrificed their lives during World War II. The area is beautifully maintained using green pastures and roses, by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Dimarpur
Though the state capital of Nagaland is Kohima, the main hub of all the economic activities is Dimarpur. It possesses many markets and shopping hubs like the Hong Kong Market, which sell the most recent fashionable garments and that too at an affordable price. It is connected to major city centres of the north-east by a series of highways and road networks.

Japfu Peak
Japfu Peak is famous for being the second highest peak of Nagaland and for having the tallest rhododendron tree in the world, measuring 11 ft. It features in the Guinness Book of World Records for the same. The peak offers a stunning site during the spring season when the rhododendrons are in their full bloom.

State Museum
The State Museum of Nagaland is situated in the vicinity of Kohima. It preserves a rich collection of antiques and ancestral arms. One will be fascinated to find here almost everything about the inhabiting tribes of the state, from the displays of weaponry, costumes, jewelery, status pillars and many other such items exhibiting their culture and lifestyles.

Wildlife Reserves
The location and landscape of the state makes it an appropriate place for sub-Himalayan flora and fauna to flourish. High rains, pleasant temperature, optimum sunlight, etc. gives an impetus for the pines and oaks, Bonsum and Nahor, ferns and shrubs to grow here in the sub-tropical forests. Rare species of Wild fauna, common in the Himalayan regions can be easily found here, including Indian Hornbills, Sambar, Wild Boar, Panther, Tiger, Slender Loris, etc. Dove and Green Pigeons are also common visitors here. The main Wildlife Sanctuaries in Nagaland are Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary and Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary.

Adventure Calling
Nagaland is a perfect destination for an adventure freak, since it possesses high peaks, speedy rapids, gorges and deep valleys. Most of its areas are covered with forests which are rich in flora and fauna, ready to be explored by the traveler. Trekking is the favorite adventure sport here and Dzukou Valley is one of the best trekking spots, located at an altitude of 2438 m above sea level. The appealing beauty of the hills draped in greenery, abundant in herbs and flowers, has enough of unexplored areas such as rocky caves and cliffs. Other trekking sights are Mokokchung, Pungro, Satoi Range and Mount Tiyi.

TRIBAL TOUR TO NAGALAND

There are around sixteen tribes that inhabit the state of Nagaland. All these tribes have their own distinct culture, language, costumes, food habits, traditions and art forms. The common thread of bond is their primary occupation which remains agriculture and their love for music, dance and celebration which is their inborn characteristic. They generally belong to the Christian faith and are predominantly rice-eaters. The tribal people mostly have dark skin, mongoloid features, colorful attires, excessive accessories and piercings. These tribes are generally considered to be animists as they are strong believers of ghosts and spirits. The main tribes of Nagaland are Konyaks, Aos, Semas, Pochuri, Khiamngan, Sangtam, Chang and Angamis.
