Jorhat
This is small but bustling town where you can get everything. If you are a golf lover, the 19th century Gymkhana Club offers bargain value golf. The crowded central market is a good place to buy some unique Assamese food or better to buy large chunks of golden brown jaggary. Not finished yet, there is small museum along AT road and a beautiful Tourist Lodge. There are plenty to see around Jorhat.
Tea Estate Gateways
Assam contributes majority of tea production in the country, even it is one of the largest tea producing regions of the world. No wonder tea estates are the major tourist attraction in Assam. Upper Assam tea gardens are older than 150 years and once the most treasured destination of British Empire. The tea garden sprawled over several acres of land and far away from cities. for increasing travelers, there are impressive bungalows mushrooming up. The resorts have all the fascinating arrangement. There are horses or other vehicle for strolling around, golf course, swimming pool and other entertainment facilities.

Majuli Island
The popular excursion from Jorhat is a trip to Majuli, the largest river island in the world. If you are traveling in the month of November you will lucky to witness a major tourist festival that showcase traditional music, theatre, foods and handicraft fair. Majuli houses 22 ancient Vaishnavites sattras (monasteries). The most visited satras are the huge and exotic Uttar Kamalabari and Auniati where you can visit the little museum built by monks houses Ahom royal artifacts. To get there, ferries leave twice a day from the ferry station at Nimatighat that can be reached by public bus or taxi from Jorhat.
Sibsagar
It was the capital of Ahom and oldest town of Assam. Lies in a serene place 60km northeast of Jorhat and 369km from Guwahati. The place is famous for its cluster of monuments from 6th century Ahom dynasty. The monument are the testimonial of Assamese culture and its history. On its southern shore, the massive, plain 32 meter high Shivadol is the tallest Shiva temple in India, reposed by smaller temples of Durga Vishnu. There are several sadhus lined up in front of temples and there is large tank dominate the place. On the western side of the tank is the red painted Assam Tai Museum that preserve Assam ancient artifacts and handicrafts. There are several accommodations are available near ASTC bus stand but the government Tourist Lodge is the best bet.
Talatalgarh
It is ancient Ahmo ruin complex situtated 4km down AT road from central Sibsagar. Rang garh s an oval shaped pavillion from where Ahom monarchs once watched buffalo and elephant fights. Golagarh is an extensive, two storey Ahom palace ruins.
Karengarh
It is the last remnant of the Ahoms pre Sivasagar capital. The huge Karen Garh palace is a unique four storeys made up of 1752 bricks, rises like a sharpened, stepped pyramid above an attractive forest and paddy setting.
