
Gopalpur on sea was ancient port of Paloura and it was the trade route for the pearl and silk trade with southeast Asia. Sights And Activities
TaptapaniIt is quite a popular excursion from Gopalpur, located 67km away, famous for hot spring of medicinal sulphuric water. The place is on the state highways and connects Berhampur with western Orissa. It is a lovely place, surrounded by hills and thick forests and a great place to observe sun rise and sun set. Enjoy one day in one of few forest lodges to witness tribal dance and music, chirp of birds and rendezvous with wild animals. The place is now gaining popularity as a major tourist attractions.
Dhableshwar
A pleasant island called Dhableswar is located 15km from Gopalpur. The island is named after its presiding deity Lord Dhabaleshwar and incarnation of Lord Shiva. The island is not only renowned for its wild beauty but also has religious significance. The temple preserve the sculptures dating back to the 10th century AD. Dhabaleshwar is specially crowded on Shivratri, a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva when thousand of devotees throng this small island.
Beach Activities
Gopalpur is excellent place for yachting. You can easily rent a yacht from the old sea port and go in the sea to tackle the sea waves. Don't forget to visit the old lighthouse and climb it up. From the top you will get a full view of lovely scene of the bay, blue water, high waves and the sea lagoons.
