Location

Pushkar lies on the edge of the desert about 14 km from Ajmer in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by hills on three sides and sand dunes on the other.

The Creation of Brahma

The tiny tranquil town of Pushkar along the bank of the picturesque Pushkar Lake is an important pilgrimage spot for the Hindus. Pushkar is famous for the Pushkar Fair and Brahma Temple and spectacular view of desert at sunset. The holy lake of Pushkar is believed to have been created by Lord Brahma himself. Pushakr is no less important than Varanasi or Puri.

Tourist Attractions

Brahma Temples
Pushkar abounds in temples. Of these the most famous is the Brahma temple - the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in the country. The temple is marked by a red spire and over the entrance gateway is the Hans, or goose symbol, of Brahma.

The Pushkar Lake
No pilgrimage is consedered complete without a dip in the holy Pushkar lake. The lake has a mythological significance associated with it. According to myth, Lord Brahma was on his way to search for a suitable place to perform a 'Yagna' (a fire sacrifice). While contemplating, a lotus fell from his hand on the earth and water sprouted form three places. One of them was Pushkar where Lord Brahma performed his Yagna.
Ghats
There are 52 ghats at the holy lake and pilgrims are constantly bathing in the lake's holy waters. Every year thousands of devotees throng the lake around the full moon day of Kartik Purnima in October - November to take a holy dip in the lake. A huge and colorful cattle fair - the Pushkar Fair, is also held during this time.

Pushkar Fair
Pushkar is also the venue of one of the country's most colorful cattle fairs - the Pushkar Fair. Dance, music and colorful shops spring up during this fair. Cattle auction and camel races are also a part of the festivities.

Reaching Pushkar
By Air - The nearest airport is Jaipur (145 km), from where one can take flights for Delhi and Mumbai.
By Rail - Ajmer is the nearest railway station from where one can take trains for the major destinations in Rajasthan and other parts of India.
By Road - Pushkar is connected to Ajmer by road, which is around 14 km away. We would provide you all India tourist permit vehicles for the local transportations and also for the intercity drives too.
