Udaipur Travelling

Location

Located in the southeast of Rajasthan, Udaipur is 670 km from New Delhi, 260 km from Jodhpur and 420 km from Jaipur on the Jaipur-Mumbai highway.

The Venice of the East

Udaipur, the jewel of Mewar was founded by Maharana Udai Sigh II in 1568. Udaipur is famous for lakes, palaces, city palace, puppet museum, miniature paintings, and temples. The romantic city of lake palaces is also called the Venice of the East. Udaipur is an enchanting city with lakes in the midst of sandy terrain to green forested hills where wildlife still abounds, the surprises are endless. And, in the lakes, or by their edges, are palaces straight out of fairy tales, each more beautiful than the other. There are rugged fortresses too - Chittaurgarh and Kumbhalgarh, where the history of Udaipur is told as if it were but a page of three lakes, its narrow streets lined with shops and craftsmen's ateliers encourage hours of window-shopping for the avid tourist. The ambience, climate and history have combined, making Udaipur a tourist heaven.
