Location : Jorethang in South Sikkim is about 30 km form Darjeeling in West Bengal.
How To Reach : The nearest airport is at Bagdogra, West Bengal. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the nearest one. Road is linked to major near by towns like Pelling, Gangtok, Yuksom, and others. The place is linked by buses to Yuksom (3 hours), Legship (1 hour) and Gezing (2 1/2 hours). There are many shared jeeps to Pelling and to Gangtok via Jorethang or Rablonga. Gezing is close to Pelling in Sikkim.
Where To Stay : There are few hotels in that region.
When To Go : Round the year except monsoon.
Jorethang is a prime business center in the south Sikkim District. The town lies in the very south of the state, just across the river Rangit from Singla Bazaar in West Bengal and a mere 30km north of Darjeeling, just visible across the tea plantation. In the midst of hills, it seems that it set on an odd flat shelf, the weather and unlike other popular towns in Sikkim it is much organized with good market and few hotels. One of the popular attractions of Jorethang is annual Maghe Mela, which lasts for about three days starting on the 14th of January. People from far of villages come to see the fair and even it has become a major tourist attraction.

Legship is another town located 26km north of Jorethang. It is the gateway to west Sikkim connecting Gezing and Pelling with the rest of the state, lies on the bank of river Rangit. The prime attraction is the large temple complex on the bank of river Rangit. People from near by villages visit the temple everyday. The main temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and known as Kirateshwar mahadev Mandir.

River Rafting
River rafting is a major activity in this region. The turbulent river Rangit provides an ideal opportunity for white water adventure. The topographical variations where river rises from a higher point and suddenly drop to lower levels, is something mind boggling.

Maghey Mela At Jorethang
It is the major festival of Sikkim and north Bengal that last for 6 days whose popularity beckons people from far away from eastern Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The festival showcase the culture and the traditions of Sikkim by different cultural programs, cultural shows, traditional cuisines, competitions. Maghey Mela is becoming popular every year, even last year it was recorded 5 lakh people attended the festival. The festival is held every year in the middle of January. Normally the duration of fair as long as week but it depends on local mela committee.
