NamchiNamchi, meaning Sky High nestled beautifully among the hills at an elevation of 5,500ft offers a bird eye view of the vast stretches of valley. Namchi is also the headquarters of the South district. It is become a fast developing tourist destination with its immense potential for all round tourist activities. It is about 78km from Gangtok and 100km from Siliguri.
Tendong Hill
It is much overlooked region of south Sikkim. It is small stretch of land at an altitude of 8530ft, surrounded by lush green ancient forest. Tendong Hill was the place where Buddhist monk spent years meditating amidst calm and scenic ambiance. Tendong Hill is specially revered among Lepchas because according to a story the Hill saved the Lepcha tribe from the ravages of deluge when the whole world was flooded. The view from the top of the Tendong Hill is something to be cherished and enjoyed as it spans across plains of Bengal to the majestic heights of the Himalayan Ranges.
Temi Tea Garden
The lone tea garden in the state is the one of the biggest producers of India and also recognized as a home of one of the top quality teas in the International market. The tea garden is spread out on a gentle hill slope originating from the Tendong Hill and provides a magnificent view of the surrounding villages. There is an old British bungalow situated just below the tea garden. A trek to tea garden, enroute to the Tendong Hill will be rewarding experience.
Ravangla
Ravangla is the transit point to various tourist destinations in south and west Sikkim. It is a small town set at the base of Menam Hill and a resting place for many trekkers who travel from Menam to Borong. The prime attraction of Ravangla is a short trek to the sacred cave Shar Chok Bephu.
Menam Hill
Set at an altitude of 10,300ft, the scenic view from this height is perhaps unmatched in this part of the world. Mt. Kanchenjunga and its surrounding ranges loom above to dwarf the richly forested and rugged hills. A short distance away is the legendary Bhaley Dunga, a kind of rocky spur, which juts out from the ridge top and remains suspended in the air above Yangang village. The trek to Menam from Ravangla takes about four hours and from Menam hill top one has the option to take a gentle trek to Borong village.
Borong
Borong is a small village surrounded by snow capped mountains. It is reached by motorable from Ravangla or a trek via Menam. A picturesque village with beautiful landscape and magnificent view is also host to the hot spring Borong Tsa Chu.
Versey
It lies at an elevation of 10000ft and has a motorable road acess upto Hilley. An easy 4km trek from there takes one upto the Versey Rhododendron Sanctuary. One can also trek from Soreng or Dentam in West Sikkim. The place provides a magnificent view of the mountains. You can stop at Guras Kunj trekkers hut.
