DAY 1 - ARRIVE DELHI
Arrive in Delhi. Meet and transfer to your hotel.
DAY 2 - DELHI
The capital of India, Delhi blends an historic past and a vibrant present.
Great monuments lie beside crisp new residential areas. Legend has it that
Delhi, then called Idraprastha, was originally founded around 1200 BC by the
Pandavas, the august heroes of the traditional Indian epic - Mahabharata.
The city is dotted with hundreds of landmarks offering more than a thousand
years of history in stone. Today office-goers in streams of bicycles wind
past you. There are open-air cafes, yoga ashrams, sophisticated hotels, an
old walled city built by the Mughal, glittering shops and roadside vendors.
Delhi is a colourful world of culture and tradition waiting to be explored.
Visit old and new Delhi. Overnight Imperial Hotel.
DAY 3 - DELHI/AGRA
Morning train journey to Agra. Afternoon tour to visit the world famous Taj
Mahal built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1630 to enshrine the mortal
remains of his Queen Mumtz Mahal. Included will be visits to Emperor Akbar's
Fort. Within the fort are palaces, the Pearl Mosque and the Halls of Public
and Private Audiences. Overnight Taj View Hotel.
DAY 4 - AGRA/FATEHPUR SIKRI/BAHARATPUR
A short distance from Agra lies the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri, built
by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and later abandoned due to the scarcity of water.
The graceful buildings within the city include tombs and palaces. Continue
to Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur. This spectacular reserve is
best for spotting migratory and water birds. Deer and jungle cats can also
be seen. Afternoon visit of the reserve by bicycle rickshaw. Overnight Laxmi
Villas Palace.
DAY 5 - BHARATPUR/RANTHAMBOR
Boat tour of the bird sanctuary in the morning. Continue to Ranthambor.
Overnight Regency or Sawai M. Lodge.
DAY 6 - RANTHAMBOR Ranthambor is one of the best
places to see the majestic tiger. The park has panthers, marsh crocodiles,
hyenas, jungle cats, sloth bears and a great variety of birds. Of historic
interest Ranthambor Fort and an array of ancient structures. Full day of
game viewing.
DAY 7 - RANTHAMBOR/JAIPUR
Morning game drive. Drive to Jaipur (4 hours). Check in at the Jai Mahal
Palace. 2 nights.
DAY 8 - JAIPUR
Full day guided excursion of Jaipur, capital of Rajastan and among the most
beautiful cities in India. Known as the "Pink City", many of the
older buildings are blushed with pink paint. We will drive up to the
mountain fortress of Amber. Once the capital of Royals, the fort is a superb
example of Rajput architecture consisting of a complex of palaces, temples
and exquisite marble halls. Lunch and an afternoon field trip to the walled
city and the landmark Palace of Winds. Included is a visit to the City
Palace. This former Royal residence is now a museum containing artifacts
from the Rajput and Mughal empire.
DAY 9 - JAIPUR/DELHI
Morning free. Afternoon flight to Delhi for connecting flight. Extensions
available on an individual basis.
