
In terms of tourism Pithoragarh is lesser known part of Uttarakhand and because of that it is less crowded and unspoilt. Pithoragarh, however, does command attention of mountain lovers and Indian Army. Pithoragarh shares its border with Nepal and it is an important resting place for Kailash Mansarovar Yatri(pilgrims). Though Pithoragarh is cool place where less travelers, no pilgrims and no irritating guides.
Pithoragarh is an adventurers paradise. the town has six passes that goes to Tibet. Also one can trek to Milam and Namik glaciers. It has everything for nature lovers. Adventure sports of every dimensions ranging from hang gliding, trekking, skiing, canoeing, river rafting, fishing and many more are kick started here. Apart from that Pithoragarh offers thick forests where you can even spot musk deer, peafowl and even snow leopards. The valley is simply laid back with velvet grass and wild flowers, perfect for grasp the beauty of nature.
Sight And Activities
Pithoragarh FortThe only fort in the valley is set on the top of a hill. The fort was built by the Gorkhas in 1789.
Chandak
It is a beautiful hill located 8km from Pithoragarh town. The hill is the best place to have some excellent views of mighty Himalayan peaks. A small temple called Manu is highly revered among locals here. There is small market where you can gather some valuable information from local people about Pithoragarh region. Each year a fair is here in August.
Adventure Activities
Pithoragarh is the place where you can find ample opportunities to satisfy your rushing adrenaline. There are plenty of options like paragliding, hang gliding, mountain biking, river rafting, skiing, fishing and mountaineering. Only worrying is the limited number of tour operators who organize the adventure trail for you. The best way to carry you own equipments or either rent it from any organizer.
Trekking
Invest in a good pair of shoes and ready yourself to trek to Panch Chuli or Nanda Devi Devi. Although trek to Himalayan peak is a tough idea but you can always have an option to trek to numerous small ranges all around as well. Due to its ample adventure scopes, Uttaranchal Tourism has major plans to develop Pithoragarh as a major adventure spot.
Excursion To Jhulaghat
A small town 104km from Pithoragarh shares its border with Nepal. the mountains and road to Jhulaghat are steep and narrow respectively. The border itself is small Kali river, which can be crossed by a decrepit hanging bridge. You can further go to Baitari, which has a bigger market where you can shop for Nepali blankets, velvet items and other.
