Location: High up in the Kumaon hills at 6000 ft, Ranikhet is 60 km from Nainital.
How To Reach: Nearest railhead is Kathgodam (86km/3 hrs). Take a cab or bus depart from Kathgodam. Road network is well connected with Ranikhet. A most scenic drive from Kathgodam, over winding roads. Take NH24 to Rampur, NH87 to Kathgodam, state highways and roads to Ranikhet via Bhimtal, Bhowali and Khairna.
Best Time: March to April when snow is melting and spring is in the air. Tourist throng to the town in May- June.
Where To Stay: Ranikhet Sadar Bazaar is full of hotels and guest houses but they are overpriced. Hotels on the mall are relatively inexpensive and peaceful. Also you can book in advance for GMVN tourist guest house.
The history of Ranikhet dates back long ago, when Kumaoni queen, Rani Padmini fell in love with the beautiful green glades and meadows of a tiny hill paradise that her king , Raja Sukherdev named the place Ranikhet and built a grandiose palace. The palaces is no more there but the charm does.

Golfing at Ranikhet
Thick forested slopes of pine and deodar, lively mountain streams, valleys carpeted with flowers and some of the splendid view of the Himalayas, experience in Ranikhet is superb. A place for complete relaxation in the lap of majestic Himalayas, Ranikhet welcome travelers with museums, temples, lively bazaars and orchards full of fruits.

Sights And Activities

Chaubatia Orchards And Fishing At Bhalu Dam
This is a beautiful orchard garden, 10 km to the south of Ranikhet. The best place to buy some fresh seasonal fruits. 3.2 km away Kosi River s another place of interest. A huge Bhalu Dam is the lifeline of Ranikhet, supplies Ranikhet with it water. Fishing is a popular activity in this region. But you have to take permission from Chief Wildlife Warden before casting your rod.

Majhkhali
This small village located 13 km down the Almora road, is surrounded by snow –peaked mountain. The place is favorite among picnic goers as there are plenty of serene spots where mountain stream running under pine trees.

Golfing At Upat And Temple Kalika
Experience high altitude golfing in Upat valley. Playing golf under sweet sweet sunshine and pleasant weather will rejuvenate both your mind and body. Rs. 500 is the fee for playing at Army Golf Course.
Kalika is another place where an ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Kali.
