
Uttarkashi is the largest town in the Tehri Garhwal region and holds importance in Uttarakhand. Bordered by snow peaked mountains, Uttarkashi is one of the revered Hindu pilgrimages in northern India. also it is the base camp or stopover for Gangotri, Gaumukh and various other treks. The hill staion is also known as Devbhumi ( land of god) because of its religious importance.
Uttarkashi is bounded by Himalayas by its northern side and mesmerize by its vast green meadows. It seems nature has fully blossomed in the landscape in the form of terraced hills, lakes, springs and waterfalls. Apart for religious importance, Uttarkashi is trekkers paradise, adventurers dream and a wonderland for natures lovers.
Sights And Activities
Dayara BugyalThis beautiful green meadow is located about 28 km and perched at an altitude of 3048m, offers amazing views of Himalayas. There is nothing to appreciate other than natures bliss. On Gangotri road from Uttarkashi Dayara Bugyal branches off near Bhatwari. Motorable road is pto Barsu Village and from there one has to trek for 8km.
Gangnani
The place is situated 39km from Uttarkashi town. The place is visited by Hindu pilgrims because of a temple dedicated to Sage Parashar. Also visitors bathe at Rishikund, a hot water spring near the shrine.
Fishing At Dodital
Dodital is 16km from Uttarkashi nestled at a height of 3307m. It takes two days trek to reach Dodital from Uttarkashi. Another option is to reach a place called Agoda and trek from there. Dodital is specially famous for its beautiful lake and unspoilt forest of oaks and pines. Brown and rainbow trouts are avaliable in the lake. Rainbow trout is particularly beautiful, shiny silver and dotted with every color of rainbow. Fishing permits are avaliable at the District Forest Office in Uttarkashi. Rs. 150 per fishing rod.
Visit Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering
The best place for adventurers who wants to know much about mountaineering and trekking. The center has a museum and outdoor climbing wall. Basic and advanced mountaineering courses are open to all.
Trek To Gangotri And Gaumukh
Perched at a height of 3048 meters, Gangotri is one of the Char Dhams of India. The place is located about 100km from Uttarkashi. Gangaotri temple is 20ft tall and made up of white granite. The place has an immence spirtual importance for Hindus. From Gangotri one can trek to Gaumukh ( cows mouth), which is 18km from Gangotri.
